On the datasheet for the CR9580-[10,20,50] Current Sensor, there are two values for the Voltage on the Signal Out.

    - Signal Out: 0 -5 VDC
    - Max. Signal Out: 12VDC

Is the maximum 5 or 12 V? I understand that we're talking about RMS values, but I'd like to understand under which conditions would I see a 12VDC value on the output of this device.

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in our product lines. The CR9580 is current transformer based, and will output up to the saturation point of that current transformer. This maximum voltage out will occur when overcurrent is supplied. In typical motor start applications, the start current can be up to 9 times the running current. The CR9580 will output the 12 Volts when overcurrent occurs. In many digital and electronic systems, this could pose problems for the designer and typically diodes to the electronic power supply will protect these circuits. Please let us know how we can be of further assistance.
