I have attached a diagram showing the application of a Magnacraft brand of current sensing relay. This circuit is intended to control an electric pump with the operation initiated by the momentary push button with the motor current maintianing operation until the current drops due to lack of water for the pump.

Motor data: Full load current 9.9 amps, No load (no water) current 1.8 amps. Start current 37 amps.

The Magnicraft uses a shunt for sensing and is prone to failure.

What product would you recommend for this application?

    Dear Sir,

Thank you for your interest in our product lines. For your OEM application I recommend our CR4395 Series since it is UL recognized. Use the –EH trip status and connect to the NO contact on the relay. The internal relay is rated to drive the motor, thus eliminating the need for a contactor. Using our CR4395 in this configuration will also protect the relay and motor from damage since the lack of current will not drive either one.
